THE SOUTH AUSTRALIAN
CHRYSANTHEMUM & FLORAL ART SOCIETY INC
In 1915 our Society was formed as the National
Chrysanthemum Society of SA. After various attempts at establishing a
base, meetings were eventually held in the Railways Institute in 1945.
The Society changed its name in 1950 to the SA Floricultural Society.
The aim was to amalgamate all the small societies to form one society
and hold four shows a year catering for growers of chrysanthemums,
daffodils, dahlias and gladiolus and so forth. However, societies wanted
to retain their own identity and in 1982 the society became known as the
South Australian Chrysanthemum & Floral Art Society.
The Society's aim is to promote knowledge and information
pertaining to floriculture (specifically the chrysanthemum) and the
promotion of activities dealing with floral art arrangements. This is
achieved by holding monthly meetings every second Tuesday of each month
at 8pm at the Active Elders Hall at the cnr of Albert and Charles
Streets, Ascot Park. Members and interested persons are cordially
invited to attend.
Each year an Annual Show is held on the first weekend in
May where exhibitors are awarded prizes, trophies and certificates of
merit and the general public is invited to attend. A mini show amongst
members is also held in the meeting rooms in May. Our annual plant sale
is held in October of each year where members of the public can purchase
exhibition plants at a minimal cost. Workshops on how to grow champion
blooms are held each year depending on interest shown by attendees.
New members are always welcome, so if you are curious
about what is involved in growing and exhibiting champion blooms or are
just interested in growing beautiful flowers in the garden please join
us. If you would like more information please call me on 04 2240 2667 or
